With what populations do The Colorado Counselor's counseling and therapy work?
I provide therapy for adults dealing with a wide range of personal issues. You can be seen for marriage counseling, individual counseling, or family therapy. I enjoy working with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and so on. I am highly trained and educated to treat individuals struggling with mental health issues, as well as those feeling "stuck" in their lives. My job is to understand each of my clients' goals, identify barriers, and work to move them in the direction they want go.
How long does therapy take?
We will establish a session schedule based on your individual needs. Some people choose to attend therapy for a few sessions, and others prefer to continue until their individual goals are met. In addition, many clients have found the
Individual Workshops to be helpful. For my female clients, there is also the new
Women's Center that has proven to be extremely helpful. I will work with you to decide what is clinically appropriate for your personal and unique situation.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance, but I can provide you with the paperwork for you to collect out-of-network reimbursement for your counseling sessions. This is because I believe that therapy is very private. The length of treatment and goals are highly individualized and determined by my professional experience and how you feel about your needs. Insurance often requires therapists to report this information to their company. This brings a third party into treatment which is meant to be safe and private. Insurance also mandates the treating diagnosis to authorize treatment. Such a label can follow an individual for life, inhibiting them from receiving insurance in the future.
Will what we discuss in therapy be kept private?
All conversations in your sessions will remain confidential. The only time when a counselor has to breach confidentiality is when there is a threat to the client or someone else's safety. This type of confidentiality breach is mandated by the law.
How does Collaborative Care Counseling handle mental health emergencies?
I am available during normal business hours. If a mental health emergency occurs outside these hours, please go to the emergency room or dial 911. Such emergencies include when a client feels suicidal, homicidal, or is feeling as though they are gravely disabled by their emergency or crisis. Safety is always the first concern.
How much does counseling cost?
Individual sessions are $110 and family sessions are $125. Sessions are 50 minutes unless scheduled for a longer time period.
What if I have to cancel a session?
There is a strict 24 hour cancellation policy. If you cancel your session within 24 hours of your session time, you will be charged for the session in full. I realize this may seem strict, but in fairness to all clients, each session time is very valuable.
